The English Defence League: The Politics of Reasonable Prejudice

The position of far right movements within the British socio-political landscape has traditionally been characterised by a combination of economic, social, and political cause and effect relationships. The birth and development of the English Defence League (EDL) is interesting in the way in which it provides both continuity and change when rhetorical mechanisms and strategies are focused on. This article aims to contextualise the EDL’s strategic ‘cultural difference’ alignment as it utilises a variety of narratives and performative strategies.
